And if you are in the mood for pure hiking, it is best to find a strong, thick hiking stick and start after the ascent with the Kohlmaisbahn on the Saalachtaler Höhenweg up to the Spielbergtörl and over a steep path up to the majestic summit. With a bit of luck you can admire the marmots in the wild on the alpine meadows. For the descent, the route via Mitterhörndl is best. Past the Wirtsalm and Maisalm you descend to Saalbach.

The Saalbach Hiking-Challenge

Three long-distance trails - one challenge: With a total of 64 kilometers and 3,800 meters of uphill elevation, the Saalbach Wander Challenge is quite a task even for athletic mountain freaks. The Pinzgau Walk, the Seven Summits of Saalbach Hinterglemm and the Home of Lässig Walk are on the program.

Those who have completed all three will be rewarded with a very personal trophy at the tourist office. You can document the tours either by punching holes with pincers (these are located at each checkpoint) in the control card, or do the whole thing digitally with the Summitlynx app.

Home Of Lässig Walk

With around 1,700 meters of altitude, 5 peaks and about 22 kilometers, the "Home of lässig" walk offers "Nature unplugged". From the parking lot in Lengau, you can take a leisurely walk to the Lindlingalm to warm up. Here, after about 200 m, you turn left up over Birgl to the Schusterscharte. The path leads steeply up to 1,985 m above sea level, but this way you have mastered a large portion of the altitude meters of this tour right at the beginning. In addition, the ascent is in the shade - a great advantage for summer tours. From the Schusterscharte you can recharge your batteries, because the route is relatively flat and leads over a beautiful plateau to the Mittagskogel and then even downhill to the Tor. Well recovered, you can now tackle the next steep climb to the Teufelssprung. The view from this rocky place is legendary, where according to legend the devil had a showdown with the local dairymen. Here, after about 4 hours of walking, we recommend a short break to recharge your batteries and have a snack before the most beautiful part of the hike.

Pinzgauer Spaziergang

The name is deceptive, because the tour is anything but an easy walk, but an extended and demanding hike for experienced mountain walkers. Take the Schattberg X-press to the starting point of the magnificent route. From the mountain station Schattberg Ostgipfel you start over the Marxtenscharte, the Seetörl, the Klinglertörl, the Klammscharte and the Rohrertörl to the Schmittenhöhe. Fantastic views, pure nature and many insights into the flora and fauna of the Pinzgau lead from one favorite place to the next dream panorama. Finally, take the Schmittenhöhebahn down to Zell am See (included with JOKER CARD) and return to Saalbach with the Postbus line 680.

Seven Summits

For all who love borderline experiences! The Schattberg X-press takes you to the start of the Seven Summits Tour. Via Stemmerkogel and Hochkogel the signposted route leads to the probably most technically demanding ascent to the Hochsaalbachkogel. The route continues via Bärensteigkogel, Manlitzkogel and Mittagskogel to the final highlight and highest mountain in the Glemmtal, the Geißstein at 2,363 meters. Energy reserves should also be planned for the difficult descent via the Birgel to the valley end.
